Gated Community

What does it mean to live inside a gated community of faith? This message takes us deep into Matthew 16, where Jesus brings his disciples to one of the most spiritually dark and culturally corrupt places imaginable, Caesarea Philippi, a region steeped in idol worship, pagan rituals, and moral decay. And it is precisely there, in the middle of all that darkness, that Jesus asks the question that changes everything: who do you say that I am? When Peter declares Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, something profound happens. One identity is revealed, and another is created. The further we go in God, the more of our old selves must fall away so that we can become who the people around us actually need. The rock that Jesus builds his church upon is not a physical stone but the living, active, and penetrating word of God, a word that Hebrews 4 tells us is sharper than any two-edged sword, capable of discerning the very thoughts and intentions of our hearts. This message challenges us to stop treating familiar scripture as common ground and instead allow it to find us, confront us, and change us every single time we encounter it.
