What does it actually look like when a church functions the way God intended? Acts 2 gives us a front-row seat to the early church in action, and what we find there is both challenging and deeply inspiring. At the heart of it all is a simple but powerful truth: God is responsible for how His church grows. Our role is obedience. When the Holy Spirit fell on the 120 gathered in the upper room on the day of Pentecost, it was not a trophy for them to display. It was an equipping. The Spirit was poured out so that the works of God could flow through people, not simply rest upon them. There is a critical difference between being a pipe and being a bucket, and this passage calls us to examine which one we are choosing to be. The apostolic doctrine, the teaching rooted in the firsthand experience of those who walked with Jesus, became the foundation that kept the early believers grounded and growing. It was not entertainment or spectacle that held the church together. It was the Word of God, cutting people to the heart and producing genuine conviction. That same Word still carries that same power today, and we would do well to ask ourselves whether we are truly opening ourselves to receive it.
