Wilderness is Necessary
What if the detours in our lives are not mistakes but divine appointments? In this powerful exploration of Exodus 13, we discover that God deliberately led the Israelites away from the shorter, more familiar route to Canaan and into the wilderness. Not because He forgot them or was indifferent to their struggle, but because He knew they were not yet ready for what lay ahead. After 400 years of slavery in Egypt, their minds, habits, and hearts had been shaped by oppression. The wilderness was not a punishment. It was a purification. The same is true for us. The seasons in our lives that feel empty, directionless, and stripped of comfort are often the very seasons God uses to detox us from the environments, mindsets, and dependencies that would destroy us if we carried them into our next chapter. The wilderness gets the attention off of ourselves and fixes it squarely on God, who remains the only sufficient source in a place where nothing else can sustain us.
